2 Peter 1.3
“His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence.”
The most important thing we must do every day is focus on the life that God wants us to live. God is the author and architect of life, and he calls us to live the life he created us for. When we live according to his design, we experience fullness of life. We experience a life of significance and fulfillment. When we do not live according to God’s design, we experience a diminished life.
Align your life with God’s design. Become the person God created you to be. Don’t settle for something less than what God intends for you. Don’t be fooled by what is promoted in the popular culture. Instead, live the life for which God created you. Live your life with purpose and with a passion for excellence. Do not give in to the forces of mediocrity.
Get your life in focus and keep your life in focus.
Unfortunately, the pace and pressure of today’s amplified and accelerated world make it a challenge to keep life in focus. Many distractions and distorting influences seek to pull us off course.
“Do not enter the path of the wicked, and do not walk in the way of the evil. Avoid it; do not go on it; turn away from it and pass on.” (Proverbs 4.14-14)
The world relentlessly bombards us with ideas, images, and enticements that threaten to disorient and diminish us. It is easy to get caught in the gravitational pull of a descending culture. We must not allow the world to win.
“Let your eyes look directly forward, and your gaze be straight before you. Ponder the path of your feet; then all your ways will be sure. Do not swerve to the right or to the left; turn your foot away from evil.” (Proverbs 4:25-27)
Are you living the life that God created you for? Are you an effective steward of God’s kingdom in your sphere of influence? Are you maximizing your impact for Christ at home, at work, in the church, and in the community? What are you doing in your 20 square feet?
Just before he died, George Bernard Shaw was asked by a reporter, “Mr. Shaw, you have visited with some of the most famous people in the world. You’ve met with royalty and known accomplished authors, artists, teachers, and dignitaries from every part of the world. If you could live your life over and be anybody you have known, who would you choose to be?” Shaw replied, “I would choose to be the man George Bernard Shaw could have been, but never was.”
Life in Focus is about closing the gap between what your life in Christ is and what it could be.
