Stand Firm in the Evil Day

By Tim Kight on November 2, 2021

Ephesians 6.10-14
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil … Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore …”

In order to stand firm against the schemes of the devil—and to be steadfast in the evil day—it is necessary to “be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might” and to “take up the whole armor of God.”

This is a clear and powerful call to action for the Christian community in our time and place in history.  Without a doubt, we are experiencing dark and evil days as our entire nation is under attack by evil schemes.

The radical left controls the ideological power of education, the persuasive power of the media, the informational power of tech platforms, and the coercive power of the government. As a result, the radical left dominates the ideas, images, and institutions that are shaping our society.

The agenda the left is seeking to force on America includes:

  • Big government, high taxes, massive deficit-spending, ever-increasing regulation.
  • Exclusion of the Christian faith from the public arena.
  • Critical Race Theory and false claims of “white supremacy.”
  • Open borders
  • Defund the police
  • Gender chaos and confusion.
  • Fear-mongering claims about climate change.
  • The wanton killing of unborn children through abortion on demand.

We are teetering on the edge of tyranny.  America increasingly operates more like a dictatorial regime than a constitutional republic. Conservative people and ideas are systematically censored, silenced, and canceled by the media, tech platforms, universities, and other public forums.

Instead of an open discussion of ideas, respectful debate of perspectives, and careful consideration of policies, the social/political/economic agenda is being directed by a radical political class that is openly contemptuous of the founding principles of our nation.

Socialist ideology dominates. Americans (including students) are subjected to non-stop propaganda, gaslighting, and censorship from the left. Diversity of thought is punished. Conservatives are targeted and vilified.

The anger and vitriol from woke progressives is palpable. Despite their habitual and non-stop accusations of “racist! fascist! Nazi!” toward conservatives, the radical left operates with a frightening intolerance and hatred toward anyone who disagrees with them. The verbal and physical violence that the radical left displays provides a clear picture of how they would rule if they gained the level of power they seek.

Despite their attempt to clothe their dictatorial policies in the rhetoric of public health and safety, the motive of leftist government is brazen and obvious. They want power. They want bigger government, higher taxes, more regulations, more censorship, more control. As they have demonstrated throughout the COVID crisis, their message to the American people is crystal clear: submit or be punished.

The radical left and their media allies are orchestrating the politics of resentment, fear, confusion, division, and dependence. They want American citizens to be afraid, resentful, divided, and dependent.

The radical left promotes government as the solution to our problems. The reality is that big government is the cause of many of our problems. Ironically, although nearly everyone hates Congress, about half the country still votes to give them even more power through government programs. Americans need to awaken to the reality that every tax dollar that goes to the government gives politicians more power over us.

OK, that is a brief description of many of the serious social/political challenges we are facing. What should Christians do?  How should we respond?  What actions can we take?

I will address that tomorrow.
